The ratchet features a multi-position locking mechanism that gradually comes together as each increment of the ratchet is employed, allowing the user to adjust the force applied. Once locked in place, bone fragments can be held securely without any further hand pressure. The reversible ratchet mechanism permits controlled increments of force in either opening or closing the forceps jaws, making it particularly useful in orthopedic procedures for compression and distraction of plate and screw fixation systems as well as gripping and manipulating the bone.

The Farabeuf Lambotte Bone Holding Forceps come with a locking mechanism with ratchet that offers easy one-handed manipulation. The ratchet end of the instrument allows optimal gripping, freeing the surgeon's other hand for additional instruments. The ratcheting mechanism also gives the forceps the ability to have an adjustable jaw, making them well suited for fracture repair procedures that require secure alignment of bone as well as other surgeries in which it is necessary to keep bone firmly grasped and in place.

Immediately after use, open the forceps by separating the ratchet and prevent blood from drying onto the instrument by soaking it in an enzymatic solution, or place a moist towel saturated with water over it within 20 minutes of use. Use only neutral pH detergents low pH detergents may break down the stainless protective surface and cause black staining, while high pH detergents may cause surface deposits of brown stains which can interfere with the smooth operation of the instrument.

The Farabeuf Lambotte Forceps With Ratchet is crafted from German Surgical Stainless Steel, classified as Premium OR grade, and is a reusable instrument designed for long-term performance in demanding orthopedic applications. Premium surgical-grade stainless steel construction ensures durability, corrosion resistance, and a long instrument life. Meticulous manufacturing procedures using premium materials enable some manufacturers to offer a lifetime warranty against rust and manufacturing defects.

To test ratchets for proper function, engage the instrument on the first ratchet and lightly tap the rings on a hard, level surface if the ratchets spring open, the instrument is in need of alignment and should be removed from service and sent to a repair vendor. Ratchets should engage crisply and smoothly at all times.
