The ratchet version features a ratchet end and spin lock that firmly grips bone fragments with minimal trauma, keeping the jaws locked at a fixed width for hands-free bone traction during orthopedic procedures. By contrast, the absence of a ratchet mechanism allows for quick adjustments and release, enhancing the surgeon's control

The jaws have fine horizontal serrations on their inner surfaces for fixating onto bone surfaces with ease, allowing surgeons to reposition desired bone fragments into their original anatomical place.
